The Goomtee Tea Retreat, among the best in tea tourism that India offers, sits majestically in the hills of Darjeeling. The retreat is located inside the Goomtee Tea Estate which is famous for its aromatic teas the world over, was established in by British tea planters 1899, and later acquired by the current management in 1956, the estate is a 600-acre stretch of land with mountain slopes, tea fields, forests, streams, and waterfalls. The Goomtee Tea Retreat can be reached by air via the Bagdogra Airport which is about 45 kilometres away and by train via the New Japaiguri railway station which is around 40 kilometres away.


The resort has a nostalgic feel to it and is decorated with the serene surroundings. The greenery of the mountainside and the lavish hues of the flower gardens is certainly a place where you can bask in an aura of peace and calm. The retreat is in itself the tea planter's bungalow which was restored to reflect its colonial era heritage. Other activities that are popular among guests include visiting the markets of Kurseong, exploring the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Museum and the Zoological Park, riding on the UNESCO World Heritage called the 'toy train', and going to sightseeing spots to catch a glimpse of the Tiger Hill in the backdrop of the lazy sunset. The best times to visit are March - June and September - January.
